Written for Sam, beloved 40lb monster cat who was the sweetest animal that ever lived.

Then suddenly it looms
October’s harvest moon

Salmon colored skies approach as
Songbirds go quiet
Tendrils of the night encroach
As days fade to black
There’s no turning clocks back
In the way up ahead
Lies Twilight land

The road winds
I try not to linger, so I
Just drive
And ignore
The exit signs

Lately in my heart of hearts I’ve shouldered a cross
Certain everything we care for
Carries a cost
Even memories don’t last

Merely waves on the sand
Here in Twilight land
